One Day For Myanmar
activate self esteem
16 June 2008 marks a significant and meaningful day for The Body Shop® Peninsula Malaysia as franchise holder Rampai-Niaga Sdn Bhd and its 300 staff volunteered to work One Day For Myanmar, donating the company’s entire one-day takings with staff, volunteering their day’s pay; to assist the millions who’s lives was devastated by Cyclone Nargis that hit Myanmar on 2 May 2008.

The Body Shop® had been supporting fundraising efforts since the cyclone hit by donating profits from the sale of Bag for Life in all its 50 stores in the Peninsula to the appeal. However, at the time, the Company felt it was insufficient in the face of the tragedy and so developed One Day for Myanmar.

Every Ringgit of every purchase made by the customer on 16 June 2008, went directly to the cause. Through customers’ participation, coupled with media and staff support, The Body Shop® successfully raised RM142,631 on this day to donate to Children on the Edge (COTE), a charity working with the Emergency Assistance Team-Burma (EAT-Burma), a coalition of grassroots organisations set-up by the people of Myanmar and based around the Thai-Myanmar border, to deliver aid to victims inside Myanmar
