The Body Shop® continues to inspire and engage its customers to play an active role in its environmental campaign, “Save Temengor” rainforest together with campaign partner, Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). In 2006, a Postcard Campaign by The Body Shop® and MNS witnessed 80,000 signatures obtained and presented to the State and Federal Government. On 17 April 2007, the Royal Belum State Park was officially gazetted by the Perak State Government. The gazettement, however, covers an area of 117,500ha of the entire 300,000ha. The Temengor block is still unprotected. Encouraged by the success of Royal Belum’s gazettement, The Body Shop with campaign partner MNS continues to campaign and lobby for the people’s support to push the extension of the gazettement to include the Temengor Forest Reserve.
For a few years now, we have organised nature’s trips to Belum-Temengor rainforests for customers. Continuing on the brand’s relentless efforts to raise awareness and funds to protect and conserve the 130-million year-old rainforests, The Body Shop® seeks to offer opportunities for the public to experience the natural flora, fauna and rich biodiversity that are thriving right here in the Peninsula. Not only that, to play a role in the protection and conservation of our priceless nature through its in-store Kick The Bag Habit campaign. The 3R message embedded into the Kick The Bag Habit not only contributes to the fund-raising aspect, but aimed at instilling the habit of reducing usage of shopping bags.
“We believe our customers play an important role in all our public campaigns. We want to turn our customers into environmental activists. Seeing is believing and we hope to drive the message and urgency to protect our natural heritage the Belum Temengor rainforest; envied and admired by all environmentalist worldwide. By actively supporting “Kick The Bag Habit”, customers not only feel good about practicing the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle; but they are also contributing towards the gazettement of Temengor rainforest,” said Datin Mina Cheah-Foong, Managing Director of The Body Shop® Peninsula Malaysia.
