6 OIL MYTHS BUSTED
About using oils on your face
Worried that using oils will make your skin well, oily? Oils are often misunderstood when incorporated in skincare.
Oils make the skin oily
Good oils should not cause the skin to be oily. They should absorb instantly so the skin does not look shiny or greasy but rather leave a sheer glow.
Oils just smell nice and do not really prevent ageing
Oils are a powerhouse of antioxidants, nutrients and fatty acids providing a natural barrier to protect against harsh environments. Oils are to the skin as super-foods are to our health. By protecting the skin, the skin can focus on repair, fighting off free radicals and harsh environments. By using oils, skin is helped to be more proactive rather than reactive.
All Oils are evil
Just as there are different types of fats in our diets - some healthy and encouraged, there are also different types of oils for the skin - some nourishing and beneficial.
It’s always best to use the purest form of oil found in the seeds that have the most potent active ingredients to provide nutritive benefits to the skin. Which is why our new Intensely Revitalising Oils of Life™ collection is infused with a blend of black cumin seed oil, camellia seed oil and rosehip seed oil, known for their potent properties.
Oil Free products are best
There are many products that claim to be oil-free which a lot of people are lead to believe is good for the skin. As with the phenomenon of fat-free food, where some contained more sugar to compensate for the taste, the same goes for Oil-Free products - look at the labels, there will likely be some oils in there to give its consistency or texture.
Strong, astringent cleansers are my saviours
Our skin creates its own natural oil to keep it hydrated, smooth, supple and radiant. However when we strip too much of our natural oils away, it can actually cause irritation, dryness and cracking of the skin. The skin if able, will then try to make more oil to compensate. This can lead to premature ageing and blemished skin. Therefore, you should use a gentle face wash to wash away daily dirt and grime, it will keep your skin balanced and not irritate your skin causing it to overproduce on oils.
Oils are unnecessary if I am already using a moisturiser
They work differently.
Moisturisers are like your daily dose of green juices, and oils are the boosters to drink with or before your green juice. It kick starts your system. Depending on which moisturisers you use, they can actually work better together by helping to prevent evaporation of your moisturiser and keep the ingredients locked in your skin for longer.
